One design piece could be for example a “self-assemble skirt kit”, providing the option to reuse some of the consumers own fabric as well as include textile-pattern which represent a clear message creating awareness towards sustainable consumption. By offering the opportunity to include ones own fabric pieces and finish the skirt by the user itself, he or she gets included in the production process, which makes them understand the value of the piece as well as tightening the attachment. The pieces which are left for the user to fill, can be made interchangeable to offer the possibility for personal styling, and the universal use of the piece. One skirt for several occasions. The kit could include a skirt where the own fabric could be fit in with buttons, offering the option to change if needed. Instructions how to sew it in or stitch a button also brings the handcrafting back to people, so they learn step wise how to recycle or redesign old pieces by themselves. With the assembly of the skirt, consumers would first become involved in the production process, reusing some of their own old fabric and creating something new. See the PDF for more insturctions (download here). Once I will be sort of sattisfied with the outcome I will upload the complete pattern to try it out for yourself. Therefore feel free to give coments and feedback, very much appreciated :)
So long have a look at Openwear Collaborative: http://openwear.org/ They really did a great job in offering multifunctional clothes, recycled of old shirts, or by providing patterns to make clothes that can be used in many diffrent ways. One of my favourites is the Multisquare. You can download the pattern and try for yourself.
