Officially started typing things down for my thesis today! Head is getting to full and the collection of several mind maps to confusing. I ll beginn with putting out the general concept working around the topic how to activate consumers towards sustainable consumption?
Product attachment is one main idea, which I will try to include by the process of enabling and activating consumers to participate in the design process. The idea is to put myself as designer in the role of a facilitator, who is encouraging the user to get actively involved in the process of fashion design. I am interested to test out the zones of active participation, enable users to gain new skills, which will eventually free them to create their own designs, speaking of fashion hacking and personalise their things.
I love the concepts of open source, for its transparency and the opportunity to give the consumer a view behind the scenes which opens up the process, so people can actually start participating, creating, designing, making, doing, experiencing and through that get a feeling for what means to actually make things 'by hand'. They should get a feeling for the skills that are needed, the time and the materials. Thus, I believe that there is a chance to actually create a new and higher value for those items, which is independent of its financial value.
My thesis will be very action research based, including the work on half-way products, participatory design workshops etc. Hopefully this blog can be a platform where I ll share my ideas and very much would appreciate comments! I m starting from here on, so all you will read and see is within the process of making.
